Thinking of all things gothic and strange I came across German artist Iris Schieferstein who works with dead animals. She uses the animals as raw materials, joins them (different fragments of different animals) together and creates something completely new. It’s like Frankenstein, but with animals. Her arrangements are both genius and insane. Schieferstein has even created shoes made of real animal hooves, not necessarily made to be worn, although the designer claims you can wear them! However fascinating, I was more drawn to her constructions of the dead animals. This has inspired me to photograph real skulls of dead animals and skulls in general. Maybe even bones and X rays! Just to keep going with my deathly gothic, dreamlike theme.
