Molly Crabapple is an American artist, author and entrepreneur, having worked for DC Comics, Marvel and The New York Times. Her artwork is colourful and attentive, filled with swirls, flowers and other pretty gems, tiny details you simply cannot grasp in one short viewing. Crabapple’s artwork possesses this dreamlike, fanciful aesthetic thus captivating us in to this magical world of wonder Crabapple has created. Beautiful women with plump lips and curly hair dressed in fairytale worthy attire, animals in top hats and surreal creatures, there’s a real sense of viewing the depths of Alice In Wonderland or being at the circus.
Molly Crabapple and Naiva Sol (a multi-media artist, writer and photographer) recently combined their work. Sol took analog photographs of beauty and Crabapple added her fanciful spark by drawing over the photographs. Below are some of the images from their artistic collaboration. I love the images and have been inspired to experiment with drawing over my own photographs with swirls and other pretty things evident in Crabapple’s artwork.
